Dr. Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is named on behalf of the late Dr. Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr., who was affectionately known as “Pastor K” to many. Pastor Kimbrough was described by friends as an incredible speaker, Biblical teacher, community advocate, and a man who had a passion for Biblically based Christian Education institutions.

Pastor Kimbrough, was Pastor of The People's Missionary Baptist Church in the city of Bakersfield , California for 39 years. He challenged his congregation to live according to the teachings of the Bible and not waver in their faith.

Pastor Kimbrough encouraged Pastor L.E. Anderson, Jr., of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Kokomo, IN to open a Christian Academy. He constantly impressed on his Sons in Ministry, the People’s Church family and others the “need to teach our own.” He once said, “we are living in an age where it has become imperative that we teach our children to love Christ, lead our communities, and learn about their culture.”

This Scholarship is named in his honor because of his invaluable wisdom, encouragement and guidance during the initial stages of the F.D. Reese Christian Academy.

The Purpose of Scholarship: The Dr. Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is designed to help pay the tuition and fees of an African American boy(s) who attends the F.D. Reese Christian Academy.

Who Can Apply: African American boys who had difficulty functioning in public school, but demonstrate the potential and promise, if given a chance to learn in a Christian environment that pushes academic excellence! The qualified recipient must be a student at the F.D. Reese Christian Academy, Inc. of Kokomo, Indiana.

Friends of Pastor Kimbrough are asked to sow into this Scholarship and help make a young man who has potential, but not the finances to attend the F. D. Reese Christian Academy a reality.

  • Done with the permission and blessings of FDRCA and the family of the late Dr. Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr.
  • All students will be notified in writing if they are awarded the Dr. Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr. Memorial Scholarship.
  • Please note, the Academy does not determine who will be awarded the Scholarship, this decisions will come from the family of the late Dr. Ishmael Kimbrough, Jr..
  • Monies from this scholarship will be credited to the account of the student. All monies from this scholarship are not redeemable for cash or reimbursement.
  • No monies from this scholarship will be eligible to go towards other educational institutions, but is strictly meant for FDRCA.
